Tehya Mahin, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Mahin grew up in the suburbs outside of Milwaukee, WI. She grew up with her childhood dog, Shily, lots of cats, and riding horses on her aunt's farm. From an early age, she only ever wanted to become a veterinarian.

Dr. Mahin received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2021. Before enrolling in veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary assistant in the Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital for several years and worked as a zookeeper at Madison's Henry Vilas Zoo in the year leading up to school.

She graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2026 from the University of Wisconsin Madison. During this time, she continued her work in the Large Animal Hospital alongside world-renowned professores. She was an active member and former president of her school's wildlife, exotics, zoo and aquatic medicine club and veterinary medical outreach organization. Outside of school, she also worked as a gymnastics coach and culinary instructor with kids. Working with kids has always been a passion of hers and she enjoys bringing veterinary medicine to youth.

Dr. Mahin joined Hillside Animal Hospital in June, 2026. She values developing trusting relationships with our clientele and practicing exceptional evidence based medicine, while keeping patients comfortable in our clinic. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association. She has interests in exotics, emergency medicine, diagnostic imaging and hopes to pursue acupuncture therapy in the future as an added pain management modality. "I was extremely impressed by the standard of care and teamwork practiced here at Hillside while I was a student and knew this was the place where I wanted to start my career!"

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys hiking, cooking, and playing violin with her husband, who plays piano. She and her husband are also active members at Onalaska Church of Christ and enjoy sharing the Gospel with their community. She shares her home with her husband and 2 chinchillas, Bean and Beignet.
